The surgery went very well. I was one nervous Mommy in the waiting room. Of course, me being the worry-wart I am, I was so worried something was going to go wrong with anesthesia or he was going to start bleeding uncontrollably or pretty much anything that could go wrong. None of this happened of course. Dr. B. came out and told us that everything went well and there is now A LOT of space back in Luke's throat so nothing should be obstructing his breathing at night. He again stressed the importance of giving Luke the pain meds every 4 hours and not to wait until he is in pain. We of course have no problems with this. Bring on the pain meds. Anyway here he is post surgery---not quite as happy as before:
Luke pretty much slept all day and night with on and off crying and freaking out when he had to take his meds. He did eat some ice cream and broccoli (weird right?) and drank a little sprite. He perked up a little when Oma and Mimi came to visit and we even got some smiles and laughs out of him. Here is a picture of Luke and me playing with the bed. This was fun for a few minutes, then, not so much.
Okay and this is a totally dorky picture of me but I am putting in in here anyway. I was trying to get Luke to drink some milk, so I gave myself a milk mustache and convinced him to put his lips up to the milk and give himself a milk mustache too (hoping he would drink some, but it didn't really work) Zac walked in to us smiling at him with our mustaches and thought it was funny. I did put this one in black and white to minimize my "fatness"---which doesn't really work so oh well...you also can't see Luke's mustache very well, only mine which makes me look like even more of a dork!
We are all home now and doing well. Ever wonder what a high almost 3 year old looks like? CRAZY!!! He hates taking the medicine (and believe me, it IS disgusting. I had to taste it, you know, to make sure it was okay for Luke...) but about 10-15 minutes after he takes this medicine (which is liquid Vicodin by the way) he goes NUTS. He was singing and dancing and saying all kinds of weird things. This has been happening all day. No sleeping at all. I really hope he sleeps tonight. Crazy crazy. We have been told to expect REALLY bad days even after good days for the next 14 days, so we will see what the next two weeks holds. I want to say thank you so so so much for your calls and emails and prayers for what was expected to be a difficult time, but wasn't too bad. I know it was the prayers :)
